What is a General ledger?

A general ledger is accounting's Bookeeping journal/ record. It carries all the accounting information of a business entity under a relevant head of T-account.


It is the collection of all the accounts in which a business entity deals in day to day or even long term transactions. The of general ledger is T-form account or skeleton form accounts.

Accounts with same or different accounting deads are maintaind tou record all the cash or non-cash based budiness transactions, these accounts are than Recorded at the end of accounting period in "Trial Balance" as Balance brought forward for next period.
