How to add segments in Oracle? | ORACLE BASIC PART 1

HOW TO ADD SEGMENTS IN ORACLE?



To implement oracle in any organization, it is important to discuss all aspects relating to all activities happened, happening and those which might happen in future. Implementing Oracle is not a piece of cake, Every Senior Person i.e. CEO, CFO, Chartered Accountants, Managers, Accountants and other main staff, discuss what to implement.

After discussing the entire details oracle is now being implemented:

(Suppose you are implementing Oracle)


Step 1: Login:

Open the Oracle link in Internet Explorer as Internet Explorer Supports Java Script.
Sign In with your Valid Email and Password.





And Simply Open the Software.

There are multiple methods to run the software, like opening Journal Ledger, Calendars and etc. Let’s open it through Journal Ledger.

Step 2: Open Segments

Close all the windows except the Navigator. (Closing that will close the software.)

Click Setup > Financials > Flexfields > Key > Segments



And Press the Torch Icon above and Search Application (General Ledger) With Flexfield Title (Accounting Flexfield)



 

Simply click the button above to create a new tab. Or Press (ctrl + Down)

Name Your Company in Code section.

Press Tab and Click Segments.



Step 3: Create Segments:

 

Now this table helps you create the Segments of Your Newly added Company.

First add 1 in Number Section to start creating your first Segment.

Usually the First Segment is (COMPANY) we will also start with typing company, and Press tab

You will see Window Prompt automatically rewrites the Name Section.

In Column Type SEGMENT1,

Your Table will look like this.





Now to Add Value Set you won't be able to add Value Set Directly.

What you have to do is click Value Set button below and set a unique name for Value Set Name
And choose Maximum Size, In this case we will write 2

Note: Value Set Maximum Number depends on the digits to be added.
If you choose to write 1, you can only add Companies till 1-9
If you choose to write 2, you can only add Companies till 1-99
If you choose to write 3, you can only add Companies till 1-999... And So on

And click the Right-justify and Zero-fill Numbers (0001) check box

And press ctrl+S to save your work. This is Important to save your work every time otherwise it might cause a problem.





Remember that there are five main segments you have to create in Every Oracle:

1. COMPANY
2. LOCATION
3. DEPARTMENT
4. NATURAL ACCOUNT
5. FUTURE ACCOUNT

You can create other segments too depending upon your Business Type. In Case you are implementing Oracle in a Restaurant you have to open a Segment namely PRODUCT.

Try to put At least 4 to 5 Maximum Size for Natural Account as it have your Components of Transactions.
